Our history
Oreka Reed Quintet is a group born in 2019 in Donostia-San Sebastián. It is made up of five musicians from different parts of the Iberian Peninsula (Galicia, Euskadi, Catalonia and Castilla y León).
They have created a group with its own character and personality, taking advantage of the diversity of colours and sounds offered by such an unusual formation as the reed quintet. In addition, Oreka Reed Quintet seeks to innovate in the field of classical music by working with different national and international composers, and by contributing a creative vision and quality to each of the concert programmes it presents. The ensemble focuses on all musical, artistic, visual and sound aspects, focusing on new music, creating unique projects and collaborating with personalities of the world artistic scene.
Oreka (‘balance’ in Basque) Reed Quintet (quintet of reeds) is the name we chose for the group, which defines the main elements of the quintet. This balance is the main value we want to transmit: emotional, physical and mental balance. In short: a balance that we should all seek in all aspects of life.
The quintet performs all over the world and has participated in some of the main classical music festivals and cycles, (such as the well-known San Sebastian Musical Fortnight cycle in 2020), with the aim of bringing their music to each of the spectators who attend their concerts. Through a first-person experience, the audience can identify with the music and emerge in the emotions of his musical adventures.
